Group Practice Sessions : Learning and Growing Together

September 22, 2026

Learning music is not just a one time thing - it's a slow and long process of learning concepts - practically and theoretically and applying them in real world projects. It's important to practice concepts everyday to refine skills. Practicing doesn't refer to individual practice but as a group where people come together to exchange ideas, ask questions and also listen to others performing or playing the instrument, through this process it becomes easier to identify where you're going wrong and how you can get better. Moreover, exchanging ideas with each other also helps to enhance or improve our overall idea. Recently, the students of TAG came together for a group practice session that reflected the exact spirit of collaborative learning.

Learning Through Practice:

The reel highlights a hands-on "Group Practice Session" where students are actively tracking instruments in a real-world studio environment. Through this session, students got to physically see the set-up of a professional recording. With the musician tracking with an electric guitar in the live room while the engineer operated equipment such as the SSL console in the control room. This hands-on experience helped students connect theoretical concepts like signal flow and routing with their practical application allowing them to become more familiar with student equipment through direct experience.

Discussions:

The discussions also included real-time problem solving, as the engineer and recording artist exchanged feedback on the desired tone, microphone placements, and gain staging. By making adjustments based on the artist's preferences, the engineer could refine the recording setup to better match the intended sound. This continuous exchange helped build trust and ensured that the technical decisions supported the artist's musical vision.

Collaboration Skills:

Effective collaboration also requires the performer in the live room and the engineer in the control room to coordinate their workflows and communicate clearly throughout the session. From coordinating recording takes to sharing feedback and agreeing on the desired sound, both parties need to work towards a common sonic goal. This helps students understand how teamwork and communication contribute to a smooth and productive recording process.

To conclude, from practicing the guitar to audio mixing, students were able to learn and explore different aspects of music. The session was not about getting everything perfect, but more about understanding, learning, and trying new things as a group.

These practice sessions help students to grow confidently in their career. Plus, they become confident with experimenting and trying different things. At TAG, every practice session is an opportunity to learn and grow. Here students don't only learn from their faculty but also through their peers. This practice session is a reflection of TAG’s collaborative and open learning environment.
